Synopsis:

Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.

Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in. And The Program is coming for them.

Man oh man, was this book good! I started reading this a couple days ago and then I started reading it more heavily after class today, and I just could not stop! This book was SO GOOD. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did.

The writing in this book was really great and I loved the relationship between James and Sloane. James was just so sweet and adorable and Sloane really goes through some crap in this book. And Realm! As much as I hate him in the story, I can't help but sympathize with him as well. He's one of those characters that although you don't agree with their actions necessarily, you can sympathize and acknowledge the reasoning behind his decisions.

I find the story line of this novel fascinating! I love that the reader goes through the entirety of the journey with Sloane from beginning to end of The Program. It's fascinating to see Sloane become this other person and how she deals with the things that are being thrown at her.

Also, as we learn more about the different characters, it's hard to know who to trust, and I love that. One thing that did annoy me was that it never came across Sloane's mind just to NOT SWALLOW THE PILLS. It never occurs to her to hide the pills under her tongue and just not take them. However, the fact that she does did make the story much more interesting.

I only have one quote, really. Just because I was too enamored by the story.

"They have no idea I'm really crying for Lacey. For Brady. And most of all, for myself."

Anyways, I kind of need to pick up a copy of this book and the sequel, The Treatment, now. I'm trying not to spend too much on books, because April Book Haul. But maybe. just maybe. ANYWAYS, great read!
