Synopsis:

Wilhelmina has a hundred identities.

She is a princess. When the Indigo Kingdom conquered her homeland, Wilhelmina and other orphaned children of nobility were taken to Skyvale, the Indigo Kingdom’s capital. Ten years later, they are the Ospreys, experts at stealth and theft. With them, Wilhelmina means to take back her throne.

She is a spy. Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate Skyvale Palace to study their foes. They assume the identities of nobles from a wraith-fallen kingdom, but enemies fill the palace, and Melanie’s behavior grows suspicious. With Osprey missions becoming increasingly dangerous and their leader more unstable, Wil can’t trust anyone.

She is a threat. Wraith is the toxic by-product of magic, and for a century using magic has been forbidden. Still the wraith pours across the continent, reshaping the land and animals into fresh horrors. Soon it will reach the Indigo Kingdom. Wilhelmina’s magic might be the key to stopping the wraith, but if the vigilante Black Knife discovers Wil’s magic, she will vanish like all the others

Jodi Meadows introduces a vivid new fantasy full of intrigue, romance, dangerous magic, and one girl’s battle to reclaim her place in the world.

I received a chapter sampler through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. This fact in no shape or form affects my review. Except for the existence of the review itself. I received no compensation for this review in any way. This is my honest opinion of the work.

The Orphan Queen is the beginning to a much larger scheme at work and I'm very excited to read the rest of this book!

Wilhelminna is a princess who's been forced into hiding because of the war that took her parents when she was young. She is helping to lead an underground revolution to gain her country back with her group of friends, the Ospreys, who are all the children of nobility from her country of Aecor. I was surprised that she isn't the leader of the rebellion group and I really like it that way. She's still a child and she doesn't always know what she's doing. Instead, it's the oldest child among the group, Patrick, who is the General's son, who leads the group.

I'm quite excited to dive into a fantasy world again and this one is quite good, though there is a clear need for some more world building. That's trivial though, considering that this is only a lengthy sampler. I'm really liking the way the novel is going and I can't wait to read the rest of this.

I really want to know who Black Knife is. I have my suspicions, but I really want to read the rest of the book to figure out who it is. I'm predicting that this book is going to be a 4 star book for me. It'll change depending on how the ending is and if i'm drawn in enough to want to read the second book.

I can definitely see the setup for this book to be at least a trilogy, if not, a quartet. I hope that the rest of this book won't disappoint me!

I can't wait for this novel to be released, because I NEED to read the rest!

Happy Reading!
