Oh god. How many tissues have I used now? Like maybe five. This book is so . . . i don't even know how to describe it.

One Thing Stolen is about Nadia, a girl who has moved with her family to Florence, Italy for her father's sabbatical. She's had trouble speaking and she compulsively steals things to weave into nests. They're made out of paper and flowers and ribbons and whatever she can get her hands on. She can't help herself and she hides them under the bed in her room.

One day, while out with her father, she encounters a boy named Benedetto with hair like light. He gives her flowers and apparently no one else can see him.

This book is divided into three parts, each told from different points of view. One from Nadia's, one from Maggie, Nadia's best friend, and from Benedetto's point of view. I sobbed through a good portion of this book. Probably from the end of the first part. I dont even know when I started. Once I started, it was hard to stop.

The beginning was hard to read at first, as it is told from Nadia's point of view and everything has a slight dream like quality and there are no quotations around what people are saying. Most of her part is internal and very few words are spoken, as she has trouble speaking.

I don't want to reveal too much about the plot and the rest of the book, but I'll just say that this book broke my heart and then some, but it's beautiful and meaningful.
